Holdrege High Jazz Band Earns Straight Superiors at Jazz Festival

The Holdrege High Jazz Band received three superior ratings from three judges at the 2007 Hastings College Jazz Festival on Monday, April 2. The ensemble performed selections from their March "Madness" concert and featured soloists Emily Brestel, Marcelle Strydom, Jared Buskirk, and Lane Shultz. The judges/clinicians were prominent jazz musicians including Roger Neumann, saxophone, Los Angeles, Calif.; Kirk Garrison, trumpet; Chicago, Ill.; Tony Gulizia, piano, Vail, Colo.; Andy Hall, bass, Omaha, Neb.; and Joey Gulizia, drums, Omaha, Neb. Holdrege high band director Dan Wiese said, "The rating was nice but what really mattered most was what we learned from the wonderful feedback of the clinicians."
