Dusters Continue to Emphasize Sportsmanship by Attending Summit

by Bob Drews

November 26, 2007

Holdrege High School was represented at the 6th annual Sportsmanship Summit in Lincoln, Nebraska on November 20, 2007. This year's summit was hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University.  The team from HHS heard speakers, participated in discussions and learned about how sportsmanship can be promoted in a school and in a community.  The sessions were organized with some focusing on a student audience and others set up for presentation to adults.  The highlights of the day were the keynote addresses given by motivational speakers Harvey Alston and Aaron Davis.  Mr.Alston has been a frequent guest in Nebraska speaking at all of the previous conferences and Mr. Davis is a former UNL football player from the '94-'95 championship years.  The summit is sponsored by the Nebraska Coaches Association and the Nebraska Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.  Holdrege High School's team included students (Jayme Beachler, Erik Buettner, Kristin Killough, Haley Mondt, Breanne Schneider, Dempsey Smith), parents (Jeff Bell, Darrel Giesenhagen, Jeanette Nedrig, Renee Schulz), faculty (Jason Hale) and administration (Robert Drews, ).  Holdrege is gaining a strong reputation for good sportsmanship in our area and throughout the state with awards from the previous two years state basketball tournaments.  With continual examination of our practices and goals, we hope to create an even more positive atmosphere for our student activities.
