Juniors Tour Local Businesses to Learn About Careers
January 23, 2008
January 16, 2008 was a cold and blustery day that probably kept most people indoors, but the Junior class members and some teachers from HHS boarded busses right after school started to tour three local businesses and hear about the opportunities there are in the Holdrege area. This is the third year the tours have taken place with Allmand Brothers, Becton-Dickinson and Phelps Memorial Hospital. On these visits, the students hear presentations from the wide variety of occupational fields that each business employs and then have a chance to tour parts of the facilities. The professionals employed in these places do an outstanding job of explaining how there are many types of jobs that are needed to make a large business work, and many of fields that students may be considering are utilized to make their products and serve their customers. The students are also given a view of how some local businesses operate on a global basis out of a small town like Holdrege, Nebraska. The day consists of three 90 minute sessions, with a break between the 2nd and 3rd sessions for a lunch of pizza provided by the businesses. Thanks to Allmand Brothers, B-D and PMHC for providing this great opportunity to the students at HHS!
