FORMER RESIDENT DONATES TO HOLDREGE SCHOOL FOUNDATION

February 26, 2008

The newly reorganized Holdrege Public School Foundation recently received a $100,000 gift to boost their efforts in rebuilding their fund held at the Phelps County Community Foundation. Former Holdrege resident, Charles Gabus, made this recent gift in memory of his wife, Frances Hardy Gabus. Mr. Gabus desired that this gift be endowed and the interest be used to purchase library and text books for the Holdrege High School. Mr. & Mrs. Gabus and his family lived in Holdrege and operated Charles Gabus Ford before moving to Iowa in 19-- Mr. Gabus wrote that their three children, Jan, Pat & Gene all graduated from “the outstanding Holdrege High School.” Michele Ehresman, board member and chairperson of the Holdrege Public School Foundation expressed the schools appreciation for this gift “and the impact that this gift will have on the educational opportunities for our children. The School Foundation hopes that this gift will help to raise awareness of the efforts of the HPS School Foundation and serve as a catalyst for future gifts.” In an effort to give back to education the mission of the Holdrege Public School Foundation is ‘to support and enhance the educational efforts of students and teachers of Holdrege Public Schools by providing funding for innovative and challenging programs, learning experiences and activities.’ For more information about the Holdrege Public School Foundation, or to find out how you can make a contribution to this fund you may call Cinde Wendell at 995-8663 or the Phelps County Community Foundation at 995-6847.
