The morning preschool students display their "Robots of Rubbish."

Preschoolers Enjoy Fun Activities

by Betty Amen

March 20, 2008

In Lil’ Dusters Preschool we use the Handwriting Without Tears program.  It is a great program!  In preschool we write in capital letters with the exception of names.  Names are written with a capital letter, then lower case letters.

We use a variety of fun activities to teach the letters.  To teach size, shape and position concepts we use wood pieces, roll-a-dough, chalkboards, and magnetic screens.  We also use a variety of songs and finger plays.  Ask any of the children, “Where do you start your letters?” and you get the answer, “At the top!”

Afternoon preschoolers with their "Robots of Rubbish."

Each week we learn a different letter.  This week was the letter “R”.  We had a great time making Robots out of Rubbish!  They are on display in the main hallway if you would like to take a look at them.  If you can not come to school to see them, you can see them in the photos.  Besides reading books about robots we read books about rain and rainbows.

Next week we will learn about the letter “K”.  We will make kites to hang in our room.  We want to have a kite flight but we are postponing that due to the weather.  We do have fun activities planned for Easter.  We will dye eggs, make an Easter basket, and have an Easter egg hunt.
