Julie Peterson-Shea - 1988

April 13, 2008

Julie Peterson-Shea

1988 Holdrege High School Graduate

Julie is the daughter of George and Linda Peterson of Funk.  She is a graduate of Holdrege High School and received her BA and MFA from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.  She currently lives in Phillipsburg, KS and teaches art grades
8-12 there.  Most of her two-dimensional artwork, whether it is created in pencil, acrylic, ink, or watercolors, displays her love of detail.  She also enjoys creating wheel-thrown and sculptural ceramic pieces. She has displayed at the Womanmade Gallery in Chicago, IL, Period Gallery, Omaha, NE, and various other local locations and competitions.

The work I am donating is called “Emergence”  It features a little girl sitting on a stage with arms outstretched as if embracing the spotlight. In the background you see a cocoon and several tiger swallowtail butterflies.  There is also a grown woman’s face.  The idea behind this drawing is that we are all continually growing and changing.

Value $300.
