ELKS TEENAGER OF THE MONTH - Seniors!  Application forms are available in the Guidance Office or download here.  You can fill out the application on the computer before printing it out.  Applicants are judged on scholarship, character, leadership, service and citizenship.  Selected Monthly, September - May.  A "Teenager of the Month" student will be selected for each month, September through May.  At the Elks banquet in May a cash award and certificate will be presented to each months winners one boy and one girl, and a special cash award to the "Teenager of the Year" selected from the boy and girl "Teenager of the Month."

CHADRON STATE COLLEGE hosts HEALTH PROFESSIONS DAY 2010     Wednesday, October 6, 8:00 am – 2:00 pm (Mountain Time) - Each year Chadron State College hosts an informative health career day for students interested in learning how they can become a health care provider.  Faculty and staff from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, as well as local health care professionals, will present sessions on different health care occupations, including RHOP - the Rural Health Opportunities Program.  These sessions will cover the responsibilities and opportunities of the occupation as well as the curriculum required to obtain a degree for each health care profession.                  

Participants are given the opportunity to attend 2 different sessions.  Choices are Clinical Laboratory Science (Medical Technology), Dentistry/Dental Hygiene, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, Nursing, Radiography, & RHOP.  Campus Tours are also available.  Cost per student is $15.  This includes registration fee, handouts, brunch and a Health Professions Day t-shirt.  Adults attending – $10, if having brunch.  Registrations are available in the Guidance Office or contact the CSC Health Professions Office Toll Free 888-293-2293 or email Ms. Jill Mack, Coordinator: hpoffice@csc.edu.   Advance Registration Deadline is Wednesday, October 4, 2010; after that registration is $20.  Visit the Chadron State College website: www.csc.edu/sci/healthprofessions for more information.

UNK’s  – KEARNEY HEALTH OPPORTUNITIES PROGRAM (KHOP) –  The Kearney Health Opportunities Program is a cooperative program between the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) and the College of Medicine at University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC).  The purpose of the program is to recruit and educate traditional students from rural Nebraska who are committed to returning to rural Nebraska to practice medicine.  Benefits of the program: 1) Receive a full tuition scholarship at UNK; 2) Follow a special curriculum at UNK that will prepare you for medical school at UNMC; 3) Receive guaranteed admission to medical school at UNMC upon satisfactory completion of all requirements with the prescribed timeline.  Participating Programs to select from: Clinical Lab Science, Medicine, Nursing, & Radiography. Selection Guidelines: 1) Desire to become a healthcare provider and show knowledge of the profession; 2) Are from rural areas of Nebraska and are committed to returning to rural Nebraska to practice; 3) Demonstrate academic potential through GPA, ACT/SAT scores, and 3 letters of recommendation.  The KHOP application can be found on the UNK Health Sciences webpage at: www.unk.edu/healthsciencescholarships.  Information is also available in the guidance office.  Applications and accompanying items need to be received inthe UNK Health Sciences office no later than November 15, 2010.

CHADRON STATE COLLEGE offers the R.H.O.P. – Rural Health Opportunities Program - RHOP is a cooperative program between Chadron State College and the University of NE Medical Center.  The purpose of the program is to recruit and educate traditional students from rural Nebraska who will return to practice in rural areas of the state.  Upon selection, RHOP participants receive 1) RHOP Tuition Waiver for a maximum of 16 credit hours per semester for the years they attend Chadron State College; 2) early acceptance to UNMC as they begin the pre-professional curriculum at CSC; 3) follow a special curriculum at CSC which will prepare them for the professional school at UNMC. The specific programs offered are:  Clinical Laboratory Science (Med Tech), Dentistry, Dental Hygiene, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Radiography.  Chadron’s is an online application only.  www.csc.edu/sci/healthprofessions.  Stop into the G.O. to look into this program.  The application deadline is December 1, 2010.
