Some might call it a Cinderella story. Others might call it miraculous. Call it what you want, but many Duster fans are not surprised that the Lady Dusters soccer team finished a fantastic season by playing in the Class B state soccer finals. The Dusters entered the tournament as the District B-6 winner and the number three seed. They faced Columbus Scotus in the first round and won that game 2-1 in overtime. Jordan Pfeifer scored the only Holdrege goal in regulation and Kirsten Larson scored the winning goal in the first overtime period. Defense prevailed and Scotus was held scoreless in the remainder of overtime.
Lincoln Pius became the second team to fall to the Dusters as freshman Jaci Gillespie scored the only goal of the game and the team came away victorious.
Wins in the first two rounds set up the Dusters for the state championship game against Omaha Skutt. Skutt proved to be too much for the Lady Dusters as they fell 0-3 to a perennial soccer power. The Lady Dusters finished the season with a 15-4 record.
It was a great season for the Lady Dusters soccer team and their coaches Brad Larson and Doug Schneider. Congratulations to the players and everyone involved with the program!
