6th Grade Social Studies Projects of Myas, Incas and Aztecs

By Heidi Wells

February 26, 2010

When the sixth graders came back from Christmas break, we started studying the Mayas, Aztecs, and the Incas. When we were all finished, Mrs. Wells gave us a piece of paper that told us some projects we could do for extra bonus points. The bonus projects were that you could make an Aztec shield and depending on neatness, creativity, time, effort, and quality of work you could get up to 15 points. Or you could create a temple and get up to 50 points. You could also do a 3-D colorful mask and get up to 25 points. Something else you could do is either make an Incan feathered fan or bridge worth 25 and 30 points. But if you did not want to do any of those, you could make your own project and tell Mrs. Wells about it and she would let you know how many bonus points it is worth. Here are some examples of the projects. On one you will see a shield with a tiger on it made by Harley Scott. You also see an Aztec pyramid made of green tortillas, green and blue frosting, pretzels, fudge brownies, and green spaghetti. MMM! Yummy! Abby Nelson made a bridge out of string, rope, cardboard, construction paper, and paint. She used hot glue to hold it together. The shield made by Andrew Wilson has a sword holder with a sword, and on the shield there is a bird and an A. He made the color of the design by spray painting it after he sketched it out with a pencil. What amazing students we have in sixth grade!!
