HMS 7th and 8th Grade Quiz Bowl Team Finishes Second in Round Robin Competition

The Holdrege Middle School Quiz Bowl Team with team members front row: Maggie Gardner, Tyler Dahl, Logan Piening, Isaac Hohman, and Eli Watson; team members in the second row are: Emily Blanchard, Joel Latter, McKenzie Kidder, Tessa Perez, Stacey Kaslon, Leo Corkery, Coach Evans, Blake Huston, not pictured Ashley Alber. The round robin competition is where all teams play the other teams. There were six teams in the contest so each team competes 5 times. The team with the best winning record is Champion. If there is a tie then total points earned is the tie breaker, then finally is head to head competition. The Dusters tied with Minden for first place, but were second on point totals, even though the Dusters defeated Minden in head to head competition. Holdrege defeated Minden at the Loomis Quiz Bowl Tournament, and finished second in the ESU 11 Contest. The Dusters have many other places earned in competition this year. The seventh and eighth grade students will be competing in the online National Thinking Cap America competition later this years against 400 to 500 schools across America. The teams that competed in the Holdrege meet were: Minden first, Holdrege second, Arapahoe third, also Wilcox-Hildreth, Eustis-Farnam. Alma. The Holdrege Quiz Bowl was held at the Tassel Theater.
