The 8th grade science classes have studied the recent earthquakes that have happened in Haiti and Chile. They have learned terms related to motions of the earth’s tectonic plates and the causes of earthquakes. They have used maps to plot recent quakes and see there is a pattern which occurs. The quakes and volcanoes of the world happen along the “edges of the tectonic plates”, which are areas where the crustal rocks are the weakest. We found the list of TOP WORLD quakes and the list now shows the recent Chile quake at position #5 all time, with its 8.8 Richter scale reading.
