ELKS TEENAGER OF THE MONTH - Seniors!  Application forms are available in the Guidance Office or download here.  You can fill out the application on the computer before printing it out.  Applicants are judged on scholarship, character, leadership, service and citizenship.  Selected Monthly, September - May.  A "Teenager of the Month" student will be selected for each month, September through May.  At the Elks banquet in May a cash award and certificate will be presented to each months winners one boy and one girl, and a special cash award to the "Teenager of the Year" selected from the boy and girl "Teenager of the Month."

StudentScholarships.org is Nebraska’s leading source for finding Scholarship Money.  Check this out for many different scholarships.  It is updated monthly.

The CHRISTIAN CONNECTOR provides a FREE Christian college information service as well as a $2500 Christian college scholarship drawing.  You simply log onto www.christianconnector.com for information on financial aid and admissions tips, as well as the free college information form.  Each student who completes the request form on their site is automatically entered in our $2500 Christian college scholarship drawing.  This scholarship can be used at any Christian accredited college in the U.S. or Canada.

DISCOVER COLLEGES provides a FREE private college information service as well as a $2500 private college scholarship drawing.  Simply log onto www.discovercolleges.com for information on financial aid and admissions tips, as well as the free college information form.  Each student who completes the request form on our site is automatically entered in our $2500 private college scholarship drawing.  This scholarship can be used at any private accredited college in the U.S. or Canada.

JOSEPH’S OUTSTANDING MERIT SCHOLARSHIP for COSMETOLOGY is valued at $3,500 and is available to students who are graduating from high school in 2011 and 2012.  The criteria for this award are heavily based on excellent scholastic achievement.  Students who maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher are eligible to apply.  Visit www.josephscollege.com for an application or call 800-742-7827.  Several Outstanding Merit Scholarships will be awarded yearly.  The application must be submitted prior to graduation from high school.

The KFC COLONEL’S SCHOLARS PROGRAM offered by the KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN FOUNDATION is looking for outstanding seniors with financial need and entrepreneurial spirit.  Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board.  To qualify, graduating high school seniors must: 1) have a 2.75 GPA or better, 2) enroll in a public college or university within their state of residence, 3) plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree, 4) be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, 5) demonstrate financial need.  The online scholarship application will be available from December 1, 2011 to February 8, 2012, at www.kfcscholars.org.

CONSTANCE K. RIFE GOLF SCHOLARSHIP – This scholarship will be a $1,000 award in a single payment made directly to the scholarship recipient.  To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must be female, a senior currently enrolled in high school, and an active member of a Nebraska School Activities Association recognized high school golf team.  All qualified applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale at the time the application is submitted, and must be qualified for admission to a school, college, or university for full-time academic or technical courses.  Applications are available on-line at www.simplygolf.us.com.  The application has fillable field and can be filled out before printing.  Applications must be postmarked by February 13, 2012.

The BEST BUY @ 15 SCHOLARSHIP – The Best Buy @ 15 Scholarship Program will award 1200 scholarships of $1000 to students in grades 9 – 12 living in the U.S. or Puerto Rico who plan to enter a full-time undergraduate course of study upon high school graduation.  They are looking for students with solid grades, who are involved in volunteer efforts in their school and community, and/or have a work history.  Students must be planning to attend an accredited U.S. university, college or technical school in the fall immediately after graduation.  Application is available on-line at www.bestbuy-communityrelations.com or www.at15.com beginning December 26, 2011. Deadline for applications is February 15, 2012.

CARGILL COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM will award 350, $1000 scholarships.  Selections are based on academic achievement, extracurricular and other activities.  It is available for full-time, undergraduate study only.  Students must plan to enroll in a two or four-year college or university in the fall of 2012.  Applications are available online at www.cargill.com, keyword: scholarship; or at www.ffa.org.  Each application must have a signature from a Cargill employee.  Children of Cargill employees are not eligible for the Cargill Community Scholarship, but are eligible for the Cargill Scholarship Programs for Sons and Daughters.  Each Cargill scholarship recipient’s high school will receive a $200 grant to support the school library.  Applications must be submitted online by February 15, 2012.

The CENTRAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE ACT ADVANTAGE - To be eligible prospective students must have submitted their ACT scores to Central Community College and plan to attend a CCC campus or extended learning site.  Valued at $700, the student must have an ACT of at least 21 and a 2.5 GPA.  ACT Advantage applications will be mailed to the home address of all eligible students’ the 2nd week in January and are due February 15, 2012.  Funds are limited!

THE PHELPS COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION is again offering a series of scholarships.  Fill out one application to apply for up to 30 different scholarships.  The award amounts range from $200 to $2000.  For the scholarships that require the FAFSA, you should file your FAFSA’s no later than March 1st or shortly afterFAFSA are not required for all scholarships.  On the PCCF website there is a “High School Scholarship Directory” where you will find full scholarship descriptions and requirements.  Applications are available on the PCCF web site located at www.phelpsfoundation.org.  You can easily fill out the scholarship forms on the computer and print them off.  Applications and required materials must be postmarked by February 15, 2012 or delivered to the Phelps Community Foundation office on or before 5:00 p.m. February 15th.

The HARLAN COUNTY CATTLEMEN’S SCHOLARSHIP is available to any Harlan County resident or son or daughter of a Harlan County Cattlemen’s Association member who plans to pursue an education in Agriculture.  Applicants must be a graduating high school senior or Freshman or Sophomore in college.  Students must have achieved, while in high school, a GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.  The value of the scholarship is $500.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Applications must be postmarked no later than February 16, 2012.

NEBRASKA LIBRARY COMMISSION is offering the CULTIVATING RURAL LIBRARIANS’ 21ST CENTURY SKILLS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – Nebraska has a need for professional librarians and library assistants in all sorts of libraries: Public, Academic, School, Medical, Law, Business & Corporate, Museum & Archives.  There are different levels of careers and degrees available: 1) Associate’s – Certificate or Degree in Library and Information Services – Available through Central Community College; 2) Bachelor’s – Endorsement or Degree in Education, Library Media concentration – Available through the University of Nebraska Omaha; 3) Bachelor’s – Degree in Library Science (Public, Academic, and Special Libraries) – Available through University of Nebraska Omaha or Chadron State College.  The Nebraska Library Commission has scholarships available to help you finance your education.  Details are available at http://nlcl.nlc.state.ne.us/nowhiring/scholarships.asp.  Different deadlines apply to different applications, from February 18 to March 10, 2012.

The High School NEBRASKA PRESS ASSOCIATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP is an award of $2000 for the 2012-2013 school year to qualified 2011-2012 graduates of Nebraska high schools enrolled or planning to enroll in Nebraska colleges and universities in a post-secondary education program leading to careers in print journalism.  Enrollment must be on a full-time basis.  The recipient must use the scholarship and enroll no later than the third semester after the awarding of the scholarship.  Preference in awarding the scholarships will be given to students with a specific interest in news, editorial, photography, circulation, production, or advertising careers on weekly, semi-weekly, or daily newspapers.  Selection will be based on scholastic ability and good citizenship in school and community.  The application is available in the Guidance Office.  A fillable PDF form is also available on their website, www.nebpress.com.  Completed applications must be in the hands of the scholarship committee no later than February 24, 2012.

The BUICK ACHIEVERS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – Funded by the GM Foundation, they are awarding 1,000 scholarships at $2,000 (one-time award) and 100 national scholarships for up to $25,000/ year, renewable for up to 4 years and an additional year for those entering a five-year engineering program. They are looking to celebrate motivated passionate college bound students nationwide.  They want to recognize those who have succeeded both inside and outside of the classroom, who may not be able to attend college without financial assistance.  Requirements are: 1) will be enrolling full-time as a first-time freshmen at a 4-year college or university 2) plan to major in a specified course of study that focuses on Engineering/Technology or select Design and Business-related programs of study (list of eligible majors available on the website) 3) and are interested in a career in the automotive or related industries.  Visit their website, www.buickachievers.com, for more information and to apply online between January 9, 2012 and February 29, 2012.

UNK INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY INCOMING FRESHMAN SCHOLARSHIPS – The Industrial Technology Department at UNK offers 4 scholarships specifically for our incoming freshman students with a total of 6 awards to be made for the 2011-12 academic year.  Criteria for each of the 4 scholarships vary and a link to the descriptions of each may be found at the student log in site.  The application process is now online; you provide your information on one online form and the system finds the scholarships you would qualify for and adds you as an applicant for that particular award.  Detailed instructions are available in the Guidance Office.  Complete the application online beginning February 1 through February 29, 2012.

THE SUSAN THOMPSON BUFFETT FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP is for full tuition and fees up to $3600 per semester and up to $500 a semester for books and supplies for undergraduate students attending universities or colleges in the Nebraska state public school system (UNK, UNL, UNO, Chadron, Peru, & Wayne) and community colleges and trade school within Nebraska.  These funds are available only to the extent that tuition, fees and books are not already covered by other grants and scholarships.  These scholarships are provided for up to 5 years for 4-year schools and up to 3 years for 2-year school, or until graduation, whichever comes first.  Students may transfer from 2-year to 4-year schools or from one 4-year school to another, as outlined on above list of approved institutions, for up to a total of 5 years on scholarship. To be considered for Aid from The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, you must be a Resident of the state of Nebraska and have a current email address; must be an undergraduate student without a bachelor’s degree; must be in need of financial assistance (students who receive a tuition scholarship from another source will not qualify for this scholarship); must have maintained at least a 2.5 GPA throughout high school; must have previously applied for federal financial aid (FAFSA) and have received back the Student Aid Report that contains your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) prior to our filing deadline of March 1.  The online application can be found on their website: www.buffettscholarships.orgThey are currently updating their website.  On January 1, the page will be back up and running and they will begin taking applications online.  Applications can be submitted online between January 1, 2012 and March 1, 2012.  IMPORTANT!!  Get a head start now.  Here is a list of things you will need:

  1. Your Parents’ 2011 Tax Records – You must have your parents’ 2011 tax records to be able to complete your FAFSA.
  2. Completed FAFSA – The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  You will need to complete and submit your FAFSA online.
  3. School Transcript – When you turn in your application, you will need a copy of your most up-to-date high school or college transcript.
  4. Two letters of recommendation – that tells why they think you should get the scholarship.  Consider asking a teacher, employer, or clergy.  References cannot be from friends or family.
  5. Personal Essay – You will need at least a one-page explanation of your life circumstances, including why a scholarship is needed, and reasons for attending college.  The more explained the better.

The AURORA COOPERATIVE will be awarding a total of $5,000 in scholarships.  Four scholarships will be awarded; one in the amount of $2,000 and the remaining three in the amount of $1000 each.  Applicants must attend a public or private post-secondary institution in the 2012-13 school year, major in an agricultural related field, and have a parent/guardian that is a patron of the Aurora Cooperative.  Children of Aurora Cooperative employees are not eligible.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office or on the Aurora Cooperative web site at www.auroracoop.com under News.  Applications must be received in the Aurora Cooperative office by March 1, 2012.

The three campuses of CENTRAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE are offering the GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP.  Over 60 scholarship programs are covered by this one application.  Amounts range from $200 to $1400.  Applications are due at the campus you are attending by March 1, 2012.  Applications are available on line at www.cccneb.edu under financial aid 12/01/11 thru 03/01/11.  Complete the application and student section of the recommendation form online and then print the documents. Applications are also available in the Guidance Office. 

ENGEBRETSON FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP – The scholarship is a one-year scholarship; however, the scholarship recipient will have the opportunity to reapply each year.  The amount of this scholarship will pay the tuition cost not to exceed $10,000 per year.  The application is available on-line at www.engebretsonfoundation.org.  Complete the application on the computer before printing it out.  The application must be postmarked on or before March 1, 2012.

GRAND ISLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION’s 2012 SCHOLARSHIPS – Online application found at:  www.efoundationsolutions.com/GIEF/GIEF/scholarships, from December 14, 2010 to March 1, 2012.  By completing this one online application, you will be considered for up to 120 scholarships (depending on eligibility).  Scholarships range from $200 - $16,000 each. More information is available in the guidance office.  The following Grand Island Community Foundation Scholarships are offered for our area:

  • EAKES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – This scholarship was established to honor the memories of Howard and Gladys Eakes.  One scholarship will be awarded annually to a child or stepchild of an Eakes Office Plus employee.  This scholarship requires a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better.  Applications are available online at www.gicf.org.  Must be completed by March 1, 2012.
  • GRACE SCHOLARSHIP – This scholarship was established for the benefit of cancer patients and/or students with an immediate family member (parent or sibling) battling cancer.  Applicants must be no older than the age of 22 on the date of application, have a GPA of at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, and plan to enroll as a full-time student at a two or four year post-secondary  institution in Nebraska.  Applicant must include the name of the cancer patient and location of the cancer treatment facility in their personal statement.  Applications are available online at www.gicf.org.  Must be completed by March 1, 2012.
  • A.M. HARGIS SCHOLARSHIP – This scholarship is for graduating high school seniors, non-traditional students and returning adults from Adams, Blaine, Boone, Buffalo, Clay, Custer, Dawson, Franklin, Furnas, Garfield, Gosper, Greeley, Hall, Hamilton, Harlan, Howard, Kearney, Loup, Merrick, Nance, Nuckolls, Phelps, Platte, Polk, Sherman, Valley, Webster, and Wheeler counties in Nebraska.  Consideration will be given to students who are choosing a certificate, diploma or associate degree through Central Community College, Hamilton College (formerly Lincoln School of Commerce), or other technical institution in a Business, Health, or Travel & Tourism course of study.  Applications are available online at www.gicf.org.  Must be completed by March 1, 2012.
  • MERRICK SCHOLARSHIP (JIM AND NORMA) – This scholarship was established to benefit both graduating high school seniors and continuing education students attending Central Community College on the Grand Island Campus.  Consideration will be given to students in the following programs:  Automotive Technology, Data Processing, Diesel Technology, Drafting Technology, Electrical Technology, Electronics Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Office Technology, and Welding Technology.  Applications are available online at www.gicf.org.  Must be completed by March 1, 2012.
  • NE CHILDREN’S GROUNDWATER FESTIVAL SCHOLARSHIP (JAMI HARPER) – This scholarship was established by Jami Harper for the benefit of a Nebraska graduating high school senior pursuing a water resources related field of study.  This scholarship is not included in the online application process.  A separate application is required and is available in the guidance office or can be accessed at www.cpnrd.org/CPNRD_School_Page.html.  Application must be received by Central Platte NRD by Thursday, March 15, 2012.

The HARLAN COUNTY HOMEMAKER CLUB is offering three $200 scholarships. There will be one “Open Scholarship,” awarded to any graduating senior who resides in Harlan County.  The other two scholarships are awarded to a graduating senior who resides in Harlan County and their mother or grandmother is a member of a Harlan County Homemaker Club.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  All applications need to be to the Harlan County Extension Office by noon on March 1, 2012.

INDEPENDENT INSURANCE AGENTS OF NEBRASKA FOUNDATION MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS.  The Independent Insurance Agents of Nebraska Foundation will determine the number and amount of scholarships to be awarded each year.  This year they are awarding the following three memorial scholarships: 1) The Chet Linder Scholarship is awarded within the state of Nebraska, no location restriction  2) The Jay Jacupke Scholarship is awarded to an Adams county student 3) The IIA of Omaha Scholarship is awarded to a Douglas/Sarpy county student.  Selection will be based on academics, participation and leadership in school, community activities, and educational goals.  It is recommended that the applicant intend to major in business or a business-related field.  At least one scholarship will be awarded to an applicant intending to attend a Nebraska accredited college or university.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  The awards are for $1000 and must be postmarked on or before March 1, 2012.

INDEPENDENT INSURANCE AGENTS OF NEBRASKA FOUNDATION INSURANCE STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP for the 2011-2012 – Two Insurance Studies Scholarships in the amount of $1500 each.  At least one scholarship will be awarded to a student who is graduating from high school this year, and is registered as a full-time student in a Nebraska community college with an accredited program of study recognized by Project InVEST. Project InVEST is a national insurance studies educational organization which is based in Alexandria, Virginia.  The current accredited program in Nebraska is at Northeast Community College in Norfolk.  The Insurance Services program includes a one-year certificate option, and a two-year business degree option.  Both programs can be completed online.  Go to www.northeast.edu for more information on the Business-Insurance Services program.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  The application must be postmarked or e-mailed by March 1, 2012.

McCOOK COLLEGE FOUNDATION is offering scholarships to seniors who have completed an admissions application to the Mid-Plains Community College-McCook Campus.  Scholarship amounts vary. Applications are available on the McCook College Foundation web site at http://mccookcollegefoundation.org, under Student Financial Aid.  The scholarship application is due March 1, 2012

MID-PLAINS COMMUNITY COLLEGE at McCOOK & NORTH PLATTE SCHOLARSHIPS – apply for several scholarships by completing their general scholarship application.  An admissions application must be on file at the college before you will be considered for a scholarship.  The awards vary from $500 to full tuition.  ACT and GPA’s will be considered.  Applications are available in the guidance office or online at www.mpcc.edu.  Simply click on the Prospective Student link on the home page and then the Financial Aid link.  Students must return the applications by March 1, 2012.

DELTA KAPPA GAMMA PHI CHAPTER is offering a $250 scholarship to any female high school senior or female college student enrolled in education who has not previously received the scholarship.  Applican must have attended high school in the Phi Chapter area (Elwood, Holdrege, Alma, Southern Valley, Minden, Axtell, Loomis, Franklin, Wilcox-Hildreth).  Selection will be based on a personal statement, letters of recommendation and class rank.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office or download here, where you can fill out the application before printing. Application must be received by March 5, 2012

The SALVATION ARMY announces the “D.J’S HERO AWARD” SCHOLARSHIP.  Recognition will be given to Nebraska youths who exemplify their qualities of dedication to faith, selfless acts for others and commitment to the community.  Six Nebraska youth will receive $5000 scholarships as D.J.’s Heroes.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Application must be postmarked by March 9, 2012.

AK-SAR-BEN COMMUNITY COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP – The Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben Foundation is offering $1000 scholarships for study at a Nebraska Community College.  Criteria for this scholarship includes leadership potential, academic achievement (3.5 GPA or above), desire to earn a degree, carry at least 12 credit hours a semester and financial need.  Forms are available in the guidance office or on their website at www.aksarben.org/scholarships.  Applications are due in the community college financial aid office you will be attending by March 15, 2012.

The U.S. BANK INTERNET SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - High school seniors can go online to apply for college scholarship dollars at www.usbank.com/scholarship from October 1, 2011 to March 31, 2012.  Forty $1000 college scholarships will be awarded to graduates of the high school class of 2011.  Scholarship award recipients are selected through a random drawing process.  Students who plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college in the fall of 2011 in a full-time course of study are eligible to apply.  The earlier you apply the longer your application is in the monthly drawings.

THE AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY OF NEBRASKA offers several SCHOLARSHIPSThese scholarships are available to students whose parents or grandparents served in the military.  All have a due date of March 2, 2012 and the value of the awards varies.  (You can only apply for one.)

  1. AVERYL ELAINE KERIAKEDES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – female student attending UNL, majoring in Middle School Social Studies - amount varies.
  2. GRADUATE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS – must hold Bachelor’s Degree - $200
  3. LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP – amount varies, will not exceed $300
  4. RUBY LORRAINE PAUL SCHOLARSHIP – amount varies
  5. RUBY PAUL CAMPAIGN FUND SCHOLARSHIP – amount varies
  6. ROBERTA MARIE STRETCH SCHOLARSHIP – (Girls Stater) $400
  7. STUDENT AID GRANT OR VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP – amount varies
  8. NURSES GIFT TUITION SCHOLARSHIP – amount varies

NEBRASKA AVIATION TRADES ASSOCIATION (NATA) is offering a scholarship to the winner of an essay contest.  The essay topic is: “How Ag Aviation Helps the Entire U.S. Economy.”  The awards are $500 and $1000.  The application must include an endorsement or written recommendation signed by a Voting or Associate member of the Nebraska Aviation Trades Association.  A list of NATA members is included with the application.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office. The first two pages of the application are information & instructions; the application is on pages 3 & 4, and pages 5 – 7 is the list of NATA members.  The application and 400 word essay must be received by March 15, 2012.

ISM – NEBRASKA is offering the EXCELLENCE IN BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP – ISM (Institute for Supply Management) Nebraska are offering their 2012 Excellence In Business Scholarships, valued at $1500.  These scholarships have been established to encourage students in the geographical area represented by ISM-Nebraska to pursue college degrees in business administration and to promote the advancement of business professionalism.  Eligibility requirements are: 1) 2011 high school graduate enrolling in a 2-year or 4-year college or university in Nebraska, seeking a degree in business administration 2) selection will be based on academic performance, involvement in activities, leadership positions held in academic or non-academic activities, academic or non-academic recognitions and awards, and teacher/adult recommendations 3) strong consideration will be given to the relatives (son/daughter, grandson/granddaughter, or nieces/nephews) of an ISM-Nebraska member.  Application and recommendation forms are available on the ISM-NAPM – Nebraska web page: www.napm-ne.org.  Completed applications, transcripts, essays and (3) recommendations must be received by the ISM Nebraska Scholarship Committee by March 16, 2012.

SWANSON RUSSELL ASSOCIATES, the largest marketing communications firm in Nebraska is offering the Gus Swanson Memorial COMMUNICATIONS SCHOLARSHIP, a $500 scholarship to a senior who will attend a Nebraska College or University and major in Advertising, Marketing, Mass Communications (Print or Broadcast), Communication Studies, Public Relations, Journalism, or Graphic Design/Desktop Publishing.  A marketing strategy essay is required with the application.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office or on their Web site at www.swansonrussell.com/scholarship.  Must have a 3.25 GPA or above.  Completed applications must be received by March 16, 2012.

ST. JOHN COMMANDERY #16, KNIGHTS TEMPLAR of McCook NE is awarding five $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors from area schools.  Selection criteria to be considered: citizenship, morals, scholarship, community activities, leadership, general deportment, and need.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Applicant must have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA.  Applications must be received by March 30, 2012.

KEARNEY AREA SEWING GUILD SCHOLARSHIP – The Kearney Area Sewing Guild will award two student scholarships in the amount of $250 each to candidates wishing to pursue a career in Family Consumer Science or a related study in clothing or textiles.  Applicant must have a 2.5 high school GPA and be accepted to a Community College or University for the 2012-2013 school year.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Completed applications must be received by March 31, 2012.

The UNIVERSITY of NEBRASKA EXTENSION-LINCOLN OFFICE IN PHELPS COUNTY administers the following scholarships: (Applications are available in the guidance office & Extension office.)

  • The PHELPS COUNTY 4-H FOUNDATION is offering one $1000 and five $500 scholarships to past or present members of Phelps County 4-H.  An “out of county” scholarship committee shall select the six winners. Applications are due in the Phelps County Extension Office by 5:00 p.m. April 1, 2012.
  • The LAWRENCE NELSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP has been established to honor the memory of this long time Phelps County Fair Board member. It is a one year scholarship of $500, to be awarded to a student for higher education.  The recipient must be a past or current 4-H member who has exhibited at the Phelps County Fair with an animal or Family and Consumer Science exhibit.  The scholarship will be good at any university, college or technical school.  The applicant must have a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.  An “out of county” scholarship committee will make the selection.  A 4-H’er is eligible to apply for both the Lawrence Nelson Scholarship and the Phelps County 4-H Foundation Scholarships.  The same Career Portfolio may be submitted for both applications. An essay is required, responding to the question: How has participating in the Phelps County Fair with 4-H exhibits made an impact on your life and influenced your future?  Applications are due in the Phelps County Extension Office by 5:00 p.m. April 1, 2012.
  • The PHELPS-GOSPER LIVESTOCK GROWERS ASSOCIATION is offering one $500 scholarship to a high school senior in Phelps or Gosper Counties whose parents are Association members or employees of a P-G Livestock Growers member firm.  Applications are due in the Extension Office by April 1, 2012.

SOUTHERN PUBLIC POWER DISTRICT is offering a $1000 scholarship to an individual who plans to begin a 2-year utility line study program at an accredited school in 2012.  The scholarship applicant must currently reside within Adams, Franklin, Hall, Hamilton, Kearney, Merrick, or Phelps Counties in Nebraska, and agree to complete a 12-week summer internship with Southern in cooperation with the school attended.  Half of the scholarship ($500) will be paid directly to the recipient following the successful completion of the first year of the utility line study program and the second half will be awarded following graduation from the program.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  The application must be postmarked by April 1, 2012.

KIWANIS OF HOLDREGE SCHOLARSHIP – Four $500 scholarships will be awarded to 2012 graduating seniors from a Phelps County school.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office or you can download here.  You can fill out the application on the computer before printing it out.  Application deadline is April 2, 2012.

The LOWER REPUBLICAN NATURAL RESOURCE DISTRICT is offering two $1000 scholarships for students studying in a natural resource related field.  Applicants must have permanent residence in the Lower Republican NRD.  Scholarships are available to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year college students.  Applicants must attend college in Nebraska and be registered full-time at their college.  A Short essay explaining why you are interested in and should receive this scholarship and what your major has to do with natural resources is part of the application.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Application is due to the NRD Office in Alma by April 2, 2012.

GLENWOOD TELEPHONE MEMBERSHIP CORPORATION offers high school seniors six $500 scholarships.  The student, their parents, or guardian must be a recipient of GTMC services (Telephone, Internet, Long Distance, and/or Cable TV).  Applications are available in the Guidance Office or you can download here.  You can fill out the application on the computer before printing it out.  Applications must be received in their office by April 4, 2012.

JOHNY BAXTER CARRIAGE HOUSE FOUNDATION AUTOMOTIVE SCHOLARSHIP – The Foundation is offering six $1000 grants to students pursuing training in an automotive related field at a Nebraska Community College.  Applicants must be enrolling in an Automotive Related Study.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office and are due to the Carriage House Foundation no later than Friday, April 6, 2012.

GATEWAY FARM EXPO SCHOLARSHIPapplicant must be a graduating senior from a Buffalo, Kearney, Dawson, Phelps, Sherman, Harlan or Franklin County high school, or be a resident of the fore said counties.  A student completing home study at a level to enter college or who has received a GED during the current calendar years is also eligible as long as they meet all other criteria.   The applicant must be planning to enroll full time (12 hours or more) in an accredited, tax-exempt college or university (including trade and technical schools) and pursuing a degree or certificate in agriculture which shall include Production Agriculture, Agri-Business and Finance, and related fields.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office or you can download by clicking here.  You can fill out the application on the computer before printing it out.  Completed applications must be submitted by April 13, 2012.

UNK –LAMBDA THETA NU SORORITY INC - ALPHA BETA CHAPTER would like to announce that they will be awarding their Latina scholarships to any high school graduating female student who will attend UNK and meets the following requirements: 1) Applicant must be a female of Latino Heritage or be able to demonstrate dedication to community service and empowerment of the Latina(o) community; 2) Applicant must be a graduating senior in high school.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Completed applications must be postmarked by April 20, 2012For more information on Lambda Theta Nu Sorority-Alpha Beta Chapters and other secondary school locations, visit their national website: www.lambdathetanu.org

The 2012 AMERICAN LEGION MARTIN HORN POST 66 SCHOLARSHIP application is now available to seniors in the guidance office or you can download by clicking here.  You can fill out the application on the computer before printing it out.  Children and grandchildren, adopted or stepchildren, of members of the US Armed Forces, honorably discharged members, or POW’s, KIA’s, or MIA’s are eligible for this $600 scholarship.  Two scholarships per year will be given.  Special consideration is given to those with American Legion affiliation.  Must have a minimum of 2.50 GPA and be in the top 50% of the class.  Applications are due April 23, 2012.
