HMS Mathletes Perform Well at UNK and Emily Blanchard Qualifies for State

The HMS Math Counts Team traveled to Kearney on Wednesday, February 3rd to compete in the Nebraska Math Counts Chapter Competition. Twenty-four teams from the area arrived at UNK to compete as teams and individuals in three rounds of Math. The HMS team finished eighth out of 24 teams, with the first four teams continuing on to state. Emily Blanchard, a Holdrege Middle School 8th grader, received 5th place in the Individual Competition and will be competing at the state level in Lincoln in March. Seven more team members placed in the top 25%. Maggie Gardner, the only 7th grader, placed 8th in the competition. Joel Latter placed 21st, and Tessa Perez placed 22nd. Elijah Watson placed 25th, and Tyler Dahl placed 30th. The HMS team members were the students above as well as Lucas Hansen and Stacey Kaslon. The team was proudly coached by Anna Anderson, 8th grade Math Teacher.
