Elementary Teachers Are Excited About Reading Strategies
August 22, 2010
Holdrege elementary teachers are excited about teaching reading! A reading inservice conducted August 17th and 18th with two Nebraska Department of Education instructors, Lynette Block and Janette Jackson, helped teachers expand the skills they have to make reading exciting for students. Lynette and Janette represent the Nebraska RtI Consortium of which Holdrege Public Schools is a member. The RtI (Response to Intervention) Consortium brings training in reading instruction to schools. The training involved reviewing the reading curriculum. Teachers were instructed in ways to make reading instruction more efficient and effective for all students. Holdrege Elementary Schools core reading program is MacMillan-McGraw Hill. Teachers were given lesson maps that match the core reading program to help individualize reading instruction for students. The instruction will be focused on teaching students at their present level and increasing their reading ability.
